Curriculum
The Widener Partnership Charter School has developed its curriculum goals and objectives using the academic standards prescribed for Pennsylvania schools as a framework. The curriculum goals and objectives are based on interdisciplinary themes and will be incorporated into instruction in the special subject areas of art, music, drama, foreign language, and physical education, as well as in the traditional core subject matter areas. In addition, a school-wide theme for each year is used as a means of promoting curriculum integration across subject matter areas and grades. The Widener Partnership Charter School uses field trips and assemblies as an integral part of the curriculum.
A heavy emphasis is placed on writing and technology. To this end, a technology curriculum that encourages writing is embedded in the teaching of the core academic areas of reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students are assisted in the use of the technology tools available to them, including laptop computers, to complete a variety of curriculum activities and projects. The school curriculum infuses art, music, and drama into every aspect of school life and does so in ways that promote the development of literacy, numeracy, and emotional competence.
