University-Provided Supports

In accomplishing it mission to develop in urban elementary students the behaviors, task commitment and creativity to succeed in the current educational environment, the WPCS receives a variety of supports from the university and its School of Human Service Professions. These supports include:
•Education faculty members and students who work regularly in the school to support and enhance the instruction of classroom teachers;

•Graduate students from Education, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, and Physical Therapy who provide a range of support services to charter school children and their families so as to maximize each child’s opportunity to succeed;

•Widener’s Social Work Consultation Service (SWCS) which coordinates efforts to make the school a community resource center focused on assisting the parents and caregivers of students in the school with issues and needs that impact student academic success;

•Widener’s Center for Education which works with the school principal and teachers to develop and deliver individualized professional development programming for all WPCS teachers;

•Use of university facilities (for example, Wolfgram Library, Science Teaching Center, Art Gallery) by charter school teachers and students to enrich the curriculum;

•Corporate, foundation, and government fundraising efforts on behalf of the charter school by the university’s Development Office.
